It’s that time of year again! The 4th annual Scotties TREES ROCK! Video contest is back! Kids in grades 3-5th or 6-8th may now create a 3 minute (or less) video about the importance of trees and win $10,000 for their school!

· A song
· A dance
· A speech
· A jingle
· A poem
· An interpretive dance
The more creative the better! Just make sure to answer one question “Why do trees rock?” Trees Rock encourages individuals or groups of kids in grades 3, 4, and 5 or 6, 7, and 8 to submit a video about the importance of trees.
In each group, the grand prize winner (determined by a national vote) will win $10,000 for their school to use towards a sustainable project. The remaining 10 finalists in both groups will not leave empty-handed either and can walk away with prizes ranging up to $7,000.

· Better at writing than video? Essay entries can be submitted online at www.ScottiesTreesRock.com and winners will be announced monthly and be awarded $250 in gift cards.
Scotties created the Trees Rock program out of a passion for the environment and a desire to share the message of sustainability to students. Despite the decline in environmental education at schools, studies have proven that learning about nature enhances “critical thinking and basic life skills” along with establishing “increased engagement and enthusiasm for learning and reduced discipline and classroom management problems”.
An increase in environmental education not only helps students in science, but in other subjects such as reading and math. Scotties has conducted outdoor classes and tree plantings throughout the country and seen firsthand the passion and excitement from young people when they learn about the world around them.
